Stop The Pressure Day
On the 18th of November, the residents and devoted staff members at The Fleet Care Home raised awareness on Stop the Pressure Day. Stop the Pressure Day is recognised across the globe and highlights the awareness of the need to relieve pressure and prevent pressure sores and ulcers.
The day was led by one of our Registered Nurses Sharon, she shared information with the team and visitors on ways to prevent pressure sores. This included keeping our residents active and mobile, the ways of checking the skin signs of developing pressure sores, using speciality bedding, keeping the skin dry and clean, encouraging a healthy diet, changing positioning and the frequency of and how to manage chronic health conditions effectively.
Pressure Ulcers are wounds that occur when there is pressure in one area of the body. Constant pressure on one area of the skin prevents blood from flowing, so the cells die and the skin begins to break down. This is very common in people who are unable to move and stay in one position.
The day was an overall success to not only aid learning amongst the team, but to also share best practices whilst enjoying the delicious cakes that Sharon provided.
At The Fleet Care Home, we make sure to raise awareness of any causes that may improve our resident's wellbeing. By making sure we highlight the importance of many health causes our dedicated Activities Coordinators encourage our residents to mark the day by participating in a variety of different activities as well as enjoying their favourite treats.
This is also an opportunity for our residents to socialise with one another, and to build relationships with other fellow residents, as well as keep them physically active. One of the many things we are passionate about at our care home is making sure that our residents achieve the most out of each and every day. This is why when we can, we encourage our residents to participate in a wide range of different activities as well as encourage them to do keep doing what makes them happy.
