Our New Community Gardening Club Takes Root!

As we continue to welcome 2025, The Fleet is embracing new beginnings with the launch of our Community Gardening Club. This exciting initiative is set to bring residents, staff, and volunteers together to transform our outdoor spaces into beautiful, thriving gardens. With the support of our first official volunteers, the club will offer a wonderful opportunity for residents to connect with nature, enjoy fresh air, and participate in meaningful activities throughout the year.
Gardening has long been known to provide numerous physical and mental health benefits, from reducing stress and improving mood to promoting gentle exercise and social interaction. With this in mind, the club will host various engaging activities designed to be both relaxing and rewarding. Residents will have the chance to plant seasonal flowers, grow fresh fruit and vegetables, and even take part in wildlife-friendly projects such as bird-feeding workshops and hedgehog nest (hibernacula) building. Whether someone is a lifelong gardener or a complete beginner, there will be something for everyone to enjoy.

The Activity Team and our fantastic new volunteers will be leading the club, ensuring that every resident who wishes to take part can do so in a way that suits their abilities and interests. The group will also play a key role in refreshing our garden spaces, making them even more inviting for residents, families, and visitors. We look forward to seeing colourful flowers in bloom, lush greenery surrounding our walkways, and even homegrown produce making its way into our nutritious kitchen menus this summer. Our kitchen team is already looking forward to incorporating fresh ingredients from the garden into seasonal dishes, bringing even more flavour to mealtimes.
Beyond The Fleet itself, the Community Gardening Club will help strengthen our links with the wider community, encouraging local engagement and providing opportunities to explore beautiful green spaces in the surrounding area. Many activities will take place outdoors, allowing residents to enjoy the therapeutic benefits of nature while socialising with friends, family, and volunteers.

We are so excited to see this new project bloom and look forward to sharing updates on our gardening journey. If you or a loved one would like to get involved, please speak to our Activity Team—we’d love to welcome even more green fingers to the club!
