An Incredible Morning with Drum Devon

Residents enjoy a drumming session

On the 2nd of October 2023, The Fleet Care Home welcomed James from Drum Devon for an incredible morning of music therapy, supporting the personal and social wellbeing of our residents.

James visited all the way from Torquay on a very wet and rainy morning, to entertain our ladies and gentleman. Despite the damp weather, spirits were incredibly high throughout the session, as residents and staff gathered for a wonderfully lively and upbeat activity. Some residents even dressed in their most appropriate drumming attire.

Our residents were given a range of drums, which James taught them to tap to all kinds of rhythms and beats. Not only did James share his ability to use the drums, but he also educated us with some great information and facts about the drums and what they're used for.

The drums provided great mental and physical stimulation as well as promoted social wellbeing, as James taught our residents some beats as a group, followed by a free-style session where our residents were able to get creative with their newly learned skills.

We created some incredible music together and it was so well-received by everyone that we are hopefully going to be welcoming James back in the new year.

We love hosting activities and events for our residents, but even more so when they provide them with such joy and a new experience that they may not have normally participated in.
