A Trip to Gardentime

care home residents visiting garden centre

As always with a great British summer, sunny days are never guaranteed, so when we are graced with sunshine, we go to great efforts to plan outdoor activities for our residents to participate in.

During a recent sunny spell, Elaine took the opportunity for an afternoon visit to Gardentime in Blackawton near Dartmouth with a couple of our residents, Ron and Shirley. This was a special occasion too as it was Shirley's first time out with us.

Many of our residents have previously enjoyed gardening, so trips to garden centres are always a big success for our residents. Ron & Shirley were able to admire the plants and garden ware, as well as pick out items for our garden here at The Fleet Care Home.

Once they had finished browsing, they went into the garden centre's tea room and enjoyed a well-earned drink. It was a great opportunity for Ron & Shirley to get some fresh air as well as bond with one another over their love for plants and gardening.

It is important to us that our activities programme provides residents with a variety of opportunities, both in our home and in the local community. We also try to ensure that we provide residents with new experiences as well as the opportunity to continue with their much-loved hobbies.

Trips out of the home are offered to everyone and it's entirely up to each individual whether they wish to come and join us. We have multiple activities for our residents to take part in on a daily basis so that we cater to everyone's interests, and so that we can promote and support good physical and mental wellbeing.

We are delighted to report back that Shirley loved her first trip out because she was with her dear friend, and because of the relationship that she has built with Elaine over time.
