A Heartwarming Day of Intergenerational Bonding
This month at The Fleet, we had a brilliant Tuesday in the sun with the children from the local Humpty Dumpty nursery. We also had a visit from Lakemoor Alpacas, which became a memorable day for everybody involved.
We set up the gardens ready for our small friends and it was full of our ladies and gents waiting to greet our visitors. Both our residents and the children had a great time with the alpacas, getting to pet them, feed them carrots and ask Sam and Mark hundreds of questions!
The main goal of the day was to focus on intergenerational care and the new connections and friendships that were being built between our residents and the children. There are numerous benefits to intergenerational care including combating feelings of loneliness as well as improving mental and emotion well-being. The presence of young, energetic children brings a refreshing change to the daily routine at The Fleet, and it is lovely to see how they interact with our residents full of joy and laughter.
For the children, intergenerational care provides them with valuable life lessons. Meeting and spending time with older generations fosters respect, understanding, and empathy. It also offers them a glimpse into the past and a chance to hear stories and learn about experiences they might not encounter otherwise. This kind of exposure is crucial in shaping well-rounded, compassionate individuals.
Our day in the sun was brilliant for everybody, bringing together the community and encouraging new connections. It highlighted how simple activities, like interacting with alpacas and engaging with different age groups, can create a lasting positive impact on our residents. At The Fleet, our residents are our top priority, and we work tirelessly to ensure all of their needs and preferences aren’t just met but are exceeded. We understand the importance of intergenerational care and are looking forward to scheduling more visits from the children at Humpty Dumpty!
We extend our thanks to all the teams who made the event possible. The blend of generations, along with the presence of the alpacas and their keepers, truly was a wonderful morning.
