Dartmouth is still an important naval location, and it is home to the Britannia Royal Naval College. Spend a day touring Dartmouth’s historical buildings and locations, which are all open to the public. Dartmouth is known for more than its marine heritage, however; it is also the birthplace of Thomas Newcomen, the creator of the steam engine, which can be seen in action at the Dartmouth Visitor Centre. From the town’s various art galleries and distinctive stores to the Dartmouth Museums, which record the town’s history, to the Flavel Arts Centre & Cinema, which has a packed daily calendar, there is something for everyone.

In the town and surrounding area, you’ll find a diverse range of indoor attractions, all of which promise a fun-filled, adventurous, or educational day out all under one roof. If you’re looking for a fun day out, we recommend paying a visit to Coleton Fishacre House and Gardens. Turn the clock back to the Jazz Age at the D’Oyly Carte family’s country estate and fully  immerse yourself in this RHS-accredited garden. Check out the impressive and enticing views out to sea from the various viewpoints across the grounds, or simply take a moment to meander through the beautiful meadows that weave past peaceful ponds, and delicate plants from across the globe.

If you’re on the lookout for some of the UK’s most stunning beaches, then you should definitely visit the beaches in and around the Dartmouth area while you or a loved one are staying with us at The Fleet Care Home. Dartmouth beaches have it all, whether you’re seeking a calm cove to sit and listen to the ocean as it crashes against the rocks, or a coastal stretch to walk the dog. Castle Cove and Sugary Cove, both near Dartmouth Castle, are wonderful quiet beaches with stunning views of the estuary and the castle that you’d be foolish to miss. In addition to the natural surroundings, Dartmouth has lovely gardens and parks to explore, which are more than ideal for a peaceful walk amongst the trees, a picnic with your nearest and dearest, or taking part in lots of fun and exciting games for the whole family.
